Data-literate Software Developer
Work in a small, open source friendly team where good practice matters and your contributions make a difference.
Cocoon Labs (https://cocoon.life/) make a smart home security system, powered by our unique Subsound® technology. Subsound uses infrasound, geolocation and machine learning to make it easy for people to feel their homes are secure. Centrally based on The Calls, Leeds, our riverside offices are a 10 minute walk from Leeds Station.
We're looking for a skilled developer, with experience with either Google's Go language (Golang) or Python.
Our team develops the code which runs both on the Cocoon device itself and in our AWS-hosted cloud services. Both environments are Linux based and bring together a disparate and interesting set of components including machine learning, digital signal processing and video streaming technologies.
As developers, and as a company, we love exploring new technologies. As long as you do too, it’s not necessary to have direct experience of hardware, our market or our present technologies.
In particular, we are happy to offer the chance to cross-train to work in Golang or Python. Our experience is that - with the support of our team - a good developer, familiar with a related language, can become productive in a short time.
We strive to follow modern best practices for software development, including using GitHub for version control and issue tracking and Travis CI and Terraform for automated builds, testing and deployment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 2 years production use of Golang or Python
- An aptitude for problem solving
- A desire to learn new things
- Experience with Linux
- A good understanding of software development best practices (including automated testing and version control)
And may also have:
- Experience with aspects of data science and data management
- Experience with machine learning techniques
- Experience with container technologies (e.g. Docker)
- Experience of cloud deployment and technologies, especially AWS
- Experience of operations and monitoring
- An ability to communicate effectively on technical topics (code review, design discussions)
You will be currently in the UK with permission to work in the UK. We're not currently taking overseas applications.
